Posted fiction

I've restored "A Crisis for Mr. Lion," the corrected version of my award-winning story from Zoetrope: All-Story, to the links at right. For now, I'm keeping my published science fiction offline.

If you enjoy "Mr. Lion," a story that's done well for me, let me know.

Do you think there'll one day bne enough of those tyales to make up one book, even an e*book?

Argh... I have to learn to hit the 'preview' button!

And I need a "translate" button!

The next one, the prequel (1925) "Unearthed," comes out in the September issue of Asimov's, on sale in late July. It's a novella of over 18K words. A fourth story, currently titled "Once More," is in the works (slowly), and will likely be the longest one of all, a conclusion of sorts.

I think that will be it, and I'd like to then put all four stories together, in the sequence they were published, as His Knowledge with His Power.

Glad to hear!

Yes, I enjoyed it very much. A meta fable with the rhythm and music of poetry.

I'm one of your fellow "flea runners." Discovered your work from your writings on the old man.

We're all writers on that list. Most of us horrible but sincere. You, however, are the real McCoy. And not horrible at all! Brilliant I'd have to say.

Thank you for sharing this story. Keep me posted as you produce new ones. I am a fan.

Matt, O Fellow Flearunner,

Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad to hear you appreciated "Mr. Lion," especially since it's worlds away from my Old Man stuff.

You realize that I intend to use " . . . not horrible at all!" on the cover of my first book, right? :-D

Peace.

Ha, ha! It's yours! Speaking of books...have you thought about "long form?" I know you'd sell at least one.....

Matt,

As I say above, I'd like to assemble all of the Old Man tales into one "long form" book. Other than that, I've certainly attempted novels over the years--and I've started work on something that might be a novel. Nothing successfully achieved yet; I've yet to find myself convinced by anything I've attempted at that length.

I know that feeling. I've got one coming out this fall that I'm simply not proud of. It's a fantasy and I'm not that familiar with the genre. I wrote it to prove to myself I could. Since it was finished, I sent it around and a small publisher called New Babel Books said they'd print it. I was shocked...And, now, committed.

Congralations on the publishing deal! You know, even when a writer's done something well, there's always that feeling of it not being good enough once you can no longer change it. You just move on to the next thing.
